Is the audience for popular music created by the music industry?

This is a hard one to judge, in the modern day the music industry have attracted more audiences to listen to different variation of music like hip hop, rock rnb and so on. They make sure tunes are well critiqued, they also put sound effect where possible to make the music sound better.
Some say with shops like hmv, virgin megastore and walmarts they allow audiences to get the music they want to hear, this started in the 20th century, before this time there was no such thing as music industry but their were still fans out there buying music of their favourite rappers and musicians.
My final take on this is music industry can be said to be the door opener for publicity, merchandising, advertising and money making for artist and also create wider audiences for the different genre type of music.

when you need a 148 page of article about rock n roll / indie type music you dont need to look further than the UNCUT magazine, it is a magazine that reflexs on life in the rock world.
From when you see the front cover of rock greats such as the beatles ,elvis and Bob dylan then you get to know more about their early life, and the type of music they listen to even their top 10 of all time with this you would find out the age required to read it which is not for students like me but for adult reaching their early 30's to their late 40's they also got adverts of car they know that age group (business men are able to acquire) standard english is used and when you buy it their is always a free cd of either old or new tunes, promotion on winning tickets to see u2 and other fans favourites .. with 4ponds 30pence the price its worth a penny for a middle aged business man
